The Georgia Celiac Foundation annually organizes Camp Weekaneatit, a week-long kids-only summer camp for children aged 8 to 17. Children with celiac disease and gluten intolerance are invited to apply, as are their siblings. At camp, we focus on development and practice of independent living skills and coping skills in a fun camp format, using games, group activities, workshops, sports and spirit. This year's event will take place at Camp Twin Lakes - Camp Dream in Warm Springs, Georgia . Camp activities include swimming, boating, canoeing, fishing, archery, ceramics, and more! Meals and snacks are, of course, entirely gluten-free.
Our camp this year will take place from June 24th - 29th. Volunteers will report on June 23rd for orientation. We'd love to see you at Camp Weekaneatit 2012!

Where is Camp Weekaneatit located?
This year's event will take place at Camp Twin Lakes - Camp Dream in Warm Springs, Georgia.
How is camper eligibility determined?
Any child with medically stable celiac disease or gluten intolerance is invited to apply. Siblings are also invited. Campers aged 8 – 17 are accepted. We will work to accommodate other food intolerances and allergies. Each camper’s application will be reviewed by our medical team, to be certain that we are equipped and prepared for any special circumstances. Should a camper have circumstances that are not a good match for what we can provide, we will get in touch for further discussion.
Is there on-site medical care?
Camp Weekaneatit is equipped with a 24-hour on-site health center, staffed by a professional medical team under the supervision of Dr. Jeffery Lewis, our Camp Weekaneatit Medical Director. Careful steps are taken to ensure that campers follow the medical regimens prescribed by their personal physicians.
How does Camp Weekaneatit select its staff?
Camp Weekaneatit is led by our camp director, Jill Waddell, who works closely with the entire volunteer staff of counselors, medical professionals, mental health professionals, activity specialists and a spirit director. We focus on fun and ensuring a safe and protected environment. All of our volunteer staff is trained and screened through interviews and background checks.
What do campers do all day?
The typical camp day starts around 8:00AM and ends at approximately 10:00PM, though bedtimes vary by age. The daily schedule includes several activity periods (swimming, arts and crafts, team sports, color war, etc.) and an evening activity (campfire, talent show, scavenger hunt, etc.), as well as three meals, a snack, a rest hour, and time for showering and cabin clean-up.
How does the camper application process work?
First, complete the on-line application. If you completed an on-line application last year, you must still complete an application each year you wish to attend.
Second, pay your camper fee. The fee is non-refundable if you cancel, but will be refunded if you cannot be accepted into the camp program. Again this year, we offer money saving options:
the "early bird" special and price reduction for multiple campers from the same family.

We want every child to be able to attend, and not be left out due to the financial requirements. If the cost of camp is an issue, please contact us.
If you would prefer to submit your fee by check, make it payable to the Georgia Celiac Foundation and mail to: Mary Bohdan, 100 Tall Timber Court, Fayetteville, GA 30215.
After the applications have been reviewed, you will be notified of your acceptance status. All accepted campers will be required to complete further forms and supply additional information. Applications must be received by April 1, 2012. Parents will be notified by email as soon as the review process is complete, and will be provided additional camp information as applicable.
How do I apply as a volunteer?
